The AC2 Committee establishes an Accreditation and Certification process across Europe for EFMI. One of the very first steps is to map across Europe all the academic programmes related to the field of Biomedical and Health Informatics (BMHI). For this purpose, an online catalogue was created with appropriate content about educational programmes, which are relative to the field of BMHI. In certain countries, one may observe that the catalogue includes educational programmes in the wider inclusive field of BMHI. The corresponding data of each country was sent to the EFMI Representative Members in order to validate the existing information of each educational programme in their corresponding countries. There is pending feedback from certain representatives. Until receiving the feedback from all the countries, we should consider this database as a draft database. Medical Informatics is a field of great importance and our knowledge is rapidly growing with speed that exceeds expectations. Previous MIE conferences have all been a success gathering many of the most meritated scientists within the field. The scientific program will include the State of the Art in the area and we hope that MIE 2018 in Gothenburg will be a great and memorable event for all of us. MIE2018 is a joint event with EFMI and SFMI, the Swedish Medical Informatics Society as partners. SFMI will be the organizer of MIE 2018.

Submission

We Invite you to submit scientific contributions to the conference. Focus for the MIE 2018 congress will be "Building Continents of Knowledge in Oceans of Data: the Future of Co-Created Health" The conference is pointing to the broad range of topics in digitizing health care citizens participation, professional challenges meeting health information technology, data science, population health informatics, learning health systems, connected health and changing health systems. These topics are addressed from the perspectives of citizens, patients and their families, health professionals, service providers, standards developers and policy makers.

In 2008 SFMI were honoured to host the MIE congress. 10 years later ware back again in Sweden with MIE 2018.

The organization will be much the same as for MIE2008. It will be a co-arrangement with our yearly Swedish conference Vitalis where the participants can select either MIE2018 or Vitalis sessions. We hope that MIE 2018 in Gothenburg will be a great and memorable event for all of us.

This year the MIE - Medical Informatics Europe conference is organized within a joint event of four scientific disciplines: Medical Informatics, Medical Biometry, Epidemiology and Health Data Management under the common title of HEC2016. HEC2016 represents the annual meetings of the European Epidemiological Federation of the International Epidemiological Association (IEA-EEF), of the German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS), of the German Society for Epidemiology (DGEpi) and the principal annual conference of the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI), the MIE. For the MIE2016 the conference language is English.

We invite you to make submissions for oral or poster contributions, workshops and panel discussions, to be presented at HEC2016. We invite submissions to all of the “classical” topics of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Medical Informatics and Health Data Management. However, we also specifically welcome submissions on interdisciplinary approaches to managing complexity and big data in health, as well as on our three common core topics

  • intersectoral health care (e.g. admission and discharge management, patient safety, smart housing),
  • quality and performance indicators of health care (e.g. risk adjustment, pay for performance),
  • populations in transition (e.g. demographic change, multimorbidity, migration).

Submission Deadline

The online submission system (hec2016.online-registry.net) opens on Monday, December 14, 2015. Materials must be received by 11:59 PM Central European Time on Sunday, February 21, 2016. Submissions for workshops and panels will be open until March 27, 2016.

Submission Format

Contributions for MIE2016 may be submitted as structured papers in English, not exceeding 5 pages following the IOS template. The template is available via the HEC2016 online submission site (hec2016.online-registry.net) once logged in.

Contributions may be presented in oral sessions or poster sessions. We also encourage the submission of workshops and panel discussions.
Submissions for workshops consist of an overview abstract, a brief workshop agenda and three (minimum) to five (maximum) topic specific abstracts.
Submissions for panel discussions consist of an overview abstract and a list containing name, affiliation, a bio sketch (max. 500 characters with empty spaces) and a mission statement (max. 300 characters with empty spaces) for each of the invited experts.

Contribution selection and notification

Contributions will be selected based on the reviews and recommendations from the four discipline-specific scientific program committees. The coordinating scientific program committeereserves the right to reject contributions, or to accept contributions as oral or poster presentations.
Notification of acceptance or rejection will be emailed to the author no later than end of May 2016.

Conference registration

All presenters are expected to register for the conference and to pay the applicable registration fee within two weeks of notification of acceptance, latest June 15, 2016. If timely registration and payment of the presenting author does NOT take place, the contribution will be excluded from the programme. Registration will be available starting from December 14, 2015.

Proceedings

Full text structured 5 pages papers will be published as proceedings in the IOS Press publication Stud Health Technol Inform and indexed in PubMed.

Oral Session

A session consisting of presentations of completed research, completed projects and methodology papers. The abstracts/papers must contain research results or project outcomes.

Workshop

A workshop is to be organized by the submitters to present a set of contributions related to a specific topic aiming on an intense discussion among all workshop participants. Thus, the workshop agenda should reserve at least 50% of the workshop time for plenary discussion, small groups or other forms of interaction. Workshops may include research papers, theory papers, methodology and conceptual papers, but may also consist of a mixture of different types of papers. The submission of interdisciplinary workshops including researchers from varying institutions and research fields is highly encouraged.

Poster Session

A poster session is a visual display of completed or in-progress work. In-progress work is only eligible for poster presentation.

Panel discussion

A formal discussion of three to seven experts related to a specific, highly relevant topic in front of, but also including the audience. The panel is to be organized by the submitters. The submission of interdisciplinary panels including experts from varying institutions and areas of expertise is highly encouraged.
