I am a senior clinical academic with research interests in quality improvement. My particular interests are how you integrate technology into clinical workflow, and measure quality and health outcome from routine health data. My professional background is as a general practitioner, with my masters and doctorate in medical informatics; though I largely see technology as a tool for quality improvement (QI), greater efficiency and for improved management of health systems. I am appointed as Professor of Primary Care and Clinical Informatics and Chair in Health Care Management at University of Surrey. I am also Head of the Department of Health Care Management and Policy. I am also the Director of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Research and Surveillance Centre; http://www.rcgp.org.uk/clinical-and-research/research-and-surveillance-centre.aspx a sentinel network for flu and other infectious diseases.
I am editor of Informatics in Primary Care http://hijournal.bcs.org/ I still practice two full days per week at Woodbridge Hill Surgery, http://www.woodbridgehillsurgery.co.uk/ in Guildford which is located less than a kilometre from my academic base at University of Surrey. www.surrey.ac.uk
I have been appointed as publications officer to EFMI. In this role I am keen to promote the publication of papers and reports arising from our conferences and other activities in high impact journals. I am particularly keen that younger members of our research and clinical communities get the chance to publish their work and see it highly cited.
